3 Tips to Find a Quality Vocal Instructor

Find-a-Quality-Vocal-Instructor-Fox-MusicIf you’re new to vocal lessons, it can be tough to figure out what to look for in a good instructor. To help you in your search, here are a few tips to help you find a quality vocal instructor:

1. Credibility

One place to start is to do some online research where you can find out what experience an instructor has. You can start with an instructor’s musical background in their bio, but it can be helpful to do a little bit more digging. If an instructor claims on their website to have extensive experience, what information can you find to back that up? It’s unfortunate, but some instructors might stretch the truth or make themselves sound better than reality. It doesn’t hurt to verify an instructor’s background and credentials to double-check their credibility.

2. Coaching Skills

In addition to having extensive knowledge and experience, a good vocal instructor knows how to pass what they know to their students. If your vocal instructor struggles to transfer that information, then you may not achieve your goals or improve your skills. Vocal instruction is so much more than knowing what to teach. It’s also having the skills for how to teach and coach students effectively.

3. Passion for Teaching

Many vocal instructors wind up in a teaching role because they performed professionally in the past. However, just because someone has advanced vocal skills doesn’t mean they’ll also be passionate about teaching others. Good vocal instructors want their students to learn. Their passion shows in the energy and attention they bring to each lesson. A disengaged, uninterested instructor who’s not invested in your growth as a singer can stall your progress. Find an instructor who is as excited about your personal improvement just as much as you are.

At Fox Music, our instructors are credible instructors with a passion for teaching others. We will build you a custom vocal training plan designed for your unique singing goals.
