5 FAQs about Piano Lessons

February 21, 2022

If you’re interested in getting started with piano lessons, you might have some questions! Here are a few answers to some frequently asked questions (FAQs) to help you get rolling.

1. What is the best age for piano lessons?

If you’re wondering about the best age for lessons, you might be thinking that you’re getting too old to start now. Good news! There is no age limit for voice lessons. At Fox Music, all students are welcome beginning at the age of seven. And there are benefits you’ll experience at any age once you get started.

2. Is there anything I should bring to my lessons?

Other than the obvious, piano lessons don’t require a lot of extra equipment. You’ll probably want to bring a water bottle and perhaps a notebook. Dress in something comfortable and be ready to focus and learn!

3. Can lessons help me overcome my fear of playing in front of other people?

Yes! We understand that it’s uncomfortable or even scary to play in front of others. And that might even include playing in front of a trained music instructor. But if you want to pursue lessons, your instructor will be there to help you build your confidence. The more you train and practice, the more comfortable you will feel with your skills and technique. So keep practicing, and very soon, you’ll find yourself playing with confidence in front of other people.

4. What is the recommended number of lessons?

The number of recommended lessons varies by individual and depends on quite a few factors. Once you start working with your instructor, they will gauge your skill level and match this with your personal goals for lessons. At the same time, every musician progresses at a different rate. So do your best to practice regularly on your own and stay consistent with your training.

5. What will it take for me to get better?

The timeline around improvement varies quite a bit. But here are just a few of the factors that play a part in your progress:

  • Your experience level when you start.
  • The quality and frequency of your practice and training.
  • Your inherent skill level.
