You can start with an instructor’s musical background in their bio, but it can be helpful to do a little bit more digging. If an instructor claims on their website to have extensive experience, what information can you find to back that up? It’s unfortunate, but some instructors might stretch the truth or make themselves sound better than reality. It doesn’t hurt to verify an instructor’s background and credentials to double-check their credibility.

In addition to having extensive knowledge and experience, a good vocal instructor knows how to pass what they know to their students. If your vocal instructor struggles to transfer that information, then you may not achieve your goals or improve your skills. Vocal instruction is so much more than knowing what to teach.
