Our Piano Academy is designed to make learning both fun and effective. Students explore musical concepts in engaging ways that make learning piano feel more like a game than a chore. They're learning music, but often feel like they're playing a game. It's exciting, it's challenging, and it works! This approach helps students stay motivated, practice more consistently, and continue learning and progressing year after year.
Throughout their time at Fox Music, students have regular opportunities to perform and showcase their progress. These experiences help students build confidence and self-esteem as they become more comfortable performing in front of others. Along the way, they begin to recognize that they can do hard things and that accomplishing something challenging can be both enjoyable and rewarding. That confidence can carry far beyond the piano.
Our piano teachers have strong backgrounds in music and complete extensive training in the Fox Music teaching methodology before working with students. They are passionate about helping each student grow as both a musician and an individual. We offer piano lessons for children beginning at age seven, as well as teens and adults. For younger students, learning piano can help develop focus, coordination, creativity, perseverance, discipline, and confidence while building musical skills they can enjoy for a lifetime.
What Students Learn in Piano Lessons
Students receive a well-rounded piano education that includes proper technique, music reading, rhythm, ear training, memorization, musical interpretation, and more. Proper technique begins with good posture, correct hand position, and learning to play without unnecessary tension in the hands, wrists, and arms. Students develop the technique needed to play with greater accuracy, control, and musical expression.
Learning to read music is also at the core of our curriculum, especially for beginners. Students learn to read both treble and bass clefs, recognize notes and musical symbols, understand rhythmic values, count accurately, and keep a steady beat. As their skills develop, students become increasingly capable of learning new music independently. Students also develop their listening skills through ear-training exercises that teach them to recognize intervals and rhythms by sound.
Music theory helps students understand how music works. As they progress, students learn concepts such as key signatures, time signatures, scales, intervals, chords, inversions, and other fundamental building blocks of music. They also learn how musical elements such as dynamics, articulation, and tempo can be used to bring music to life.
